Family Erycidae include 3 genera, 14 species and occupy areas in Disjunct, western North America and central Africa eastward through Asia to western China. These lack labial sensory pits, which differing them from other pythons.
The 3 genera, sandy (Eryx), rubber (Charina), and rosy boas (Lichanura) are exclusively semifossorial snakes that occur in semiarid to arid habitats and moist, montane conifer forests. They are all moderate-sized and length less than 0.7 m. They are all viviparous.
Analysis reveal Boidae is the sister group of Erycidae.
