标本馆开展了大量的科学研究

重点研究系统分类与系统演化、动物地理、物种形成与分化

自建馆以来，以标本馆为依托发表的科研论文5000余篇，出版专著近百部，这些成果建立了我国两栖爬行动物的分类体系，促进了我国两栖爬行动物科学研究。其中，“中国两栖动物系统学研究”获2014年度国家自然科学二等奖。
